Sean and I became fast friends after that night.

We hung out after my kid went to sleep, and went on friendly “dates” to local late-night diners when my child slept somewhere else. From my own childhood experience with mothers dating, I was determined to keep him separated from them until I knew for sure where this was going.

No need to confuse the poor kid more than they already were.

To Couple Or Not To Couple

The experience with Mike — both the anxiety of laying together, and the betrayal of being forgotten — made me skeptical of that “shiny newness” of early relationships. That “love” feeling everyone has at the start was now suspect; an addiction I had to purge.

That feeling was my bane; it would blind me and wrap me up in obsession for three months. Meanwhile, I would be left defenseless and easily manipulated. No thanks.
